75% of Pinoys say country is in right direction: SWS

MANILA – An overwhelming majority of Filipinos believe the Philippines is heading in the right direction, according to the latest Social Weather Station (SWS) survey.

A 2018 Third Quarter SWS survey held on Sept. 15-23 found 75% of adult Filipinos said the country is in the right direction, a five-point increase from 70% registered in June 2018 survey.

On the other hand, only 22% believed the Philippines is in the wrong path while 3% of the 1,500 adult respondents did not give any comment.

“The five-point rise in the nationwide proportion of those who say the country is in the right direction from June 2018 to September 2018 was due to increases in all areas,” the SWS said.

The proportion of those who said in the “right direction” was the highest in Metro Manila, registering an 8-point increase from 57% to 65% followed by 5 points in Balance Luzon (from 68% to 73%) and 3 points in the Visayas (from 66% to 69%).

Although the increase was only two points in area of Mindanao, the home region of President Rodrigo Duterte has the highest number of 89%, a two-point hike from 87% in the second quarter.

Those who said the country is in the right direction also rose by 4 points in overall rural areas, from 75% in June 2018 to 79% in September 2018, and by 2 points in overall urban areas, from 66% to 68%.

According to SWS, belief that the country is in the right direction also rose in classes D and E and among non-college graduates.

The SWS noted net satisfaction with the performance of Duterte was higher at excellent +72 among those who picked the right direction compared to -3 among those who said it’s in the wrong direction. (Jelly Musico/PNA)
