77.7K vaccine doses arrive in Davao City

Some 77,229 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine arrived here on Friday, bringing the total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses delivered so far in Davao Region to 4,418,870.

The Department of Health (DOH) in Region 11 (Davao Region) said the vaccine shipment arrived at the Davao International Airport via Philippine Airlines flight PR1809 at 06:35 a.m. and was immediately brought to the DOH-11 storage facility here.

DOH-11 has urged everyone to register with their respective local government units to get an appointment for their vaccination, reiterating that the vaccines are safe, effective, and free.

Last week, Davao Region received a total of 1,136,070 million doses of Pfizer BioNTech Comirnaty jabs in three consecutive deliveries from October 6 to 8.

Pfizer has been granted an emergency use authorization (EUA) in more than 70 countries, including the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and member states of the European Union, Canada, and Switzerland.

The Philippine Food and Drug Administration approved the EUA of the Pfizer vaccine on Jan. 14, 2021.

Common adverse events reported are short-term, mild-to-moderate pain at the injection site, fatigue, and headache.

The DOH-11 reported 382 new cases of COVID-19 in the region, bringing the total number of active cases to 15,106 as of October 14.

Since March last year, a total of 99,451 cases have been recorded in the region. (PNA)-rir
