7’s Football League semifinal cast complete

MANILA — The four teams that will move on to the semifinals of the 7’s Football League were finally known after the matches on Monday night at the McKinley Hill Stadium in Taguig City.

Laro and Real Amigos earned the two outright semifinal seats after edging their respective foes in their final elimination round assignments, while Super Eagles and Ghana needed to play an extra match each, that is, the quarterfinal matches that took place on the same night, before completing the cast.

Laro, consisting of some of the former stars of the old United Football League – including former Kaya Iloilo and Philippine Azkals captain Aly Borromeo – secured the top seed after edging also-ran Futbol Fanatics, 5-0, in its final eliminations assignment.

Real Amigos, made up of players from the Makati Football School, also sealed their outright semis place after routing Western Bicutan, 5-1.

Super Eagles, who last week were at number one in the table but had a slow end to their eliminations campaign, slipped into the quarterfinal phase, but they still made the semis after edging Enderun in a tight playoff battle, 3-1.

In contrast, Ghana had a smoother quarterfinal grind, pipping Deportivo Matu, led by actor Daniel Matsunaga, 6-0.

Laro and Super Eagles meet in one semifinal assignment, while Ghana and Real Amigos lock horns in the other semifinal pairing next Monday at the said venue. ( Ivan Stewart Saldajeno/PNA)
