8 focus crimes in Bacolod down by 37% in January

BACOLOD CITY — The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) reported a 37 percent decrease in the number of eight focus crimes here in the month of January.

Data released by the BCPO as of Friday showed that from Jan. 1 to 22, 2018, only 41 cases were monitored compared to 65 during the same period last year.

The eight focused crimes include murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape, robbery, theft, carnapping and stealing of motorcycles.

According to the BCPO officer-in-charge Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebrero, the decline can be attributed to the application of Enhanced Managing Police Operation (EMPO) to the system of BCPO.

“Although BCPO is struggling with limited resources especially in manpower, using EMPO, problems are being addressed scientifically through the evaluation on crime clock and crime mapping,” it added.

Meanwhile, police-initiated operations from January 1 to 22 this year also increased by almost 57 percent — from 30 to 47 operations — compared to the 2017 figures for the same period.

This is evident in the accomplishments in the operations against illegal drugs and illegal gambling, the BCPO said.

This can be credited to the deployment of mobile and beat patrol personnel, police visibility, and intensified campaign against illegal drugs and illegal gambling, it also said.

Meanwhile, the BCPO concluded on Friday the conduct of the five-day Crime Scene First Responders and New Generation of Investigation Solution (NGIS) E-Projects Workshop for selected personnel.
