Eighty-two police personnel of Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 3 tested positive for COVID-19, 51 of whom were deployed during President Rodrigo Duterte’s last State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 26.
QCPD District Director Police Brig. Gen. Antonio Yarra said the 51 personnel were deployed to monitor route security along Commonwealth Avenue.
Yarra said their personnel were asymptomatic and were fully vaccinated when their swab samples were taken on Friday (July 23). The results were released on Tuesday (July 27).
The Quezon City government said the infected police forces have been admitted to Hope quarantine facilities.
“We request the public not to panic, especially the communities in which the precincts where these police personnel were assigned. We are appealing to anyone who is experiencing symptoms to please call 122 and inform CESU [City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit] immediately,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said in a statement.
The QCPD has been providing contact tracing assistance to the local government. Yarra said the contacts are advised to undergo “necessary testing.”
The police official said operations at Station 3 will not be affected, but visitations remain restricted. Disinfection activities in all stations in the city have been ordered. – Report from Bea Bernardo/AG- jlo
