9.4-K violations tolled on Alert Level 2 first day

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported that 9,451 minimum health standard protocols were recorded during Metro Manila’s first day under Alert Level 2 on Nov. 5.

PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said in the Nov. 5 Laging Handa briefing that this is lower than the 9,746 average during the past 20 days when the region was under Alert Level 3.

Eleazar said 10% of the reported violations on Nov. 5 are curfew-related, which is lower than the 24% figure during the Alert Level 3 implementation. This was after curfew hours implementation was lifted in the region.

“Ang natitira na lamang curfew ay iyong para sa mga minors doon sa mga LGUs [local government units] natin na mayroong mga existing ordinance na curfew para sa minors,” he said.

“Nagluwag sa movement restriction ang ating mga kababayan pero ang pulis naman natin ay hindi tayo nagluluwag. In fact, naghihigpit tayo in so far as implementation nitong mga health protocols kapag sila ay nasa labas,” he added.

Eleazar says among the instructions to local police chiefs is to determine and prepare for areas where the public is expected to gather to maximize personnel deployment.

Meanwhile, the police chief who is set to retire next week, said crime solution efficiency is at 49% during the past five years, while crimes against person and property declined by 65% and 70%, respectively.

“Ang pwede kong masabi sa aking maikling panunungkulan ay iyong patuloy na pagtaas ng tiwala at kumpiyansa ng ating mga kababayan sa ating kapulisan,” he said.

He also asked the public to support and collaborate with the police to maintain peace to economic development.

“We can only be more effective sa aming pagtatrabaho kung  nandiyan ang tulong, kooperasyon ng ating mga kababayan, mga stakeholders,” he said. – Report from Cleizl Pardilla/AG-rir
