President Rodrigo Roa Duterte approved on Tuesday (Aug. 10) the release of a ₱910 million budget for a World Teachers’ Day incentive benefit (WTDIB) for public school teachers.

The Department of Education (DepEd), in a statement on Wednesday (Aug.11), confirmed the release that will benefit 910,000 eligible personnel with an amount of ₱1,000 per teacher as they celebrate World Teachers’ Day on Oct. 5.

The department said the WTDIB “recognizes the vital role of our educators in addressing the challenges of the pandemic, especially in ensuring the continuity of learning.”

The DepEd also expressed its gratitude towards the more than 900,000 teachers who continue to “serve and educate the Filipino youth.”

In relation to this, the department has yet to release the guidelines on the distribution of the incentive.
