“Pahimis” Coffee Festival slated Feb. 22-24

AMADEO, Cavite — The municipality will officially kick off its annual “Pahimis” Coffee Festival of thanksgiving scheduled on February 22 to 24 with a coffee farmers’ symposium next week.

Local tourism officer Jam Medina Tibayan on Friday said the event aims to gather some 350 coffee farmers from this town and neighboring coffee-producing towns of Indang, Silang, Alfonso, Magallanes, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo and city of General Trias.

The forum set on January 16 will be done in partnership with local tourism council and Philippine Coffee Board, Inc. (PCBI), and will carry the theme Pick Red “Specialty Robusta”.

Forum topics include “Bringing Back the Glory of Cavite Coffee,” “Organizing Farmers’ Cooperative,” “Coffee Quality Assessment” and “Women in Coffee”.

Meanwhile, the annual “Pahimis” Coffee Festival aims to promote Cavite coffee for domestic and worldwide consumption, and revive the farmers’ interest in coffee farming, enhance coffee yields, and attain a competitive coffee price in the world market.

Festival activities include street group and dancing competition, cultural presentations, thanksgiving mass, awarding of the most outstanding coffee farmer, opening of trade fair, and a variety show to entertain revelers.

Amadeo town boasts of 4,508 hectares of coffee farm land, the largest land area devoted to coffee farming in the entire of upland Cavite, thus considered the biggest coffee producer in the province.
