West Visayas police to pursue other drug targets

ILOILO CITY — The highest police official of Western Visayas described as “mission accomplished” the death of the region’s top drug lord Richard Prevendido.

Western Visayas Police Director Chief Superintendent Hawthorne Binag said the neutralization of Prevendido “is a product of our very good intelligence, the support of the community through the information they provided and the bounty.”

The slain top drug personality, leader of the Prevendido Drug Group, had a PHP1.1 million reward on his head. Prevendido’s son, identified as Jason, was also killed in the police operation on Friday.

“This should serve as a warning doon sa mga gumagawa pa ng kalokohan. Hindi namin sila titigilan,” (This should serve as a warning to the criminals. We will not stop), said Binag in a press conference on Saturday.

The police official disclosed that their next high value target is Ernesto Bolivar, also known as Erning, who is said to be a leader of Prevendido’s sub-group.

Prevendido and his son were killed here Friday night in an operation conducted by a composite team of the Philippine National police in Western Visayas.

Law enforcers from the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), Iloilo Police Office (ICPO) and the Police Regional Office 6 Intelligence Division, were serving a warrant of arrest in the suspect’s house at Landheights Subdivision, Barangay Balabago in Jaro District in this city, when they were fired upon by two men.

IPPO director Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba said they received tips from a confidential informant on the exact location of the subject at 4 pm of September 1.

Recovered from the suspect’s house were various firearms, ammunition, four laptops, a crossbow and sachets of suspected shabu. (PNA)
