SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique — The Antique Integrated Provincial Health Office is campaigning for environmental cleanliness after 17 cases of dengue were monitored in the province as of January 12.

“We remind the public to maintain the cleanliness of their surroundings. Search and destroy mosquito breeding places,” Irene Dulduco, Integrated Provincial Health Office information officer, said on Friday.

Six dengue cases were monitored in Barbaza; two each in Culasi and Hamtic; one each in the towns of Bugasong, Caluya, Laua-an, Libertad, Sibalom, Tibiao, and Tobias Fornier.

The patients’ ages ranged from two years to 31 years.

Last year, the province recorded 15 cases with one death from the town of Hamtic.

Dulduco added that people suspected of suffering from dengue due to high fever for one to seven days, should see their doctor immediately for proper intervention.

As protective measures, people have been advised to wear loose, light-colored, long-sleeved tops and trousers to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes. Light colors attract less mosquitoes than dark ones.

The Department of Health also advocates for the 4S Strategy — search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, seek early consultation, use self-protection measures, and say yes to fogging only during outbreaks.
