ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) conducted Tuesday a “static display” of assets and skills of its specialized units at the Port of Zamboanga here.
Capt. Joseph Coyme, Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao (CGDSWM) commander, said the activity aims to ensure the readiness of PCG’s explosive ordnance demolition, anti-narcotics, and special action anti-terrorism teams.
“We need to review our existing port safety and security and how to suppress and prevent terrorism,” Coyme said.
Coyme said the activity also sought to inspect the agency’s newly-acquired equipment to ensure these are ready to respond to any seaborne terrorist attack.
Among those that were inspected are equipment for search and rescue, rubberized inflatable boats, and assault rifles.
