MMDA warns of traffic congestion in Manila due to bridge repairs

MANILA — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will be implementing minor traffic adjustments along Concordia Bridge in President Quirino Avenue, Manila amid the ongoing repairs.

The northbound lane of the bridge will be closed to motorists starting 11 a.m. of Saturday, February 9.

Its southbound lane, which was earlier closed, will be reopened to traffic at the same time.

Vehicles heading north or south will share three remaining lanes of the bridge.

“Three lanes on the southbound will be divided into a two-way traffic,” MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said in a press briefing on Wednesday.

The MMDA official stated that two lanes will be dedicated for those going to the Manila area from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., to accommodate heavy vehicular volume going to the city once the northbound lane is opened.

The other lane will be for vehicles going to Roxas Boulevard or South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) area.

“From 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., the course will be vice versa,” according to Garcia.

The reconstruction of the bridge started in May last year.

The MMDA likewise advised motorists to prepare for heavy traffic as the outer lanes of Nagtahan Bridge will be closed by next week due to ongoing repairs of the Skyway Stage 3 Project.

The Skyway Stage 3 Project is envisioned to be a 17.38-kilometer elevated expressway from Buendia in Makati City to Balintawak in Quezon City.

The project aims to connect the North Luzon Expressway and South Luzon Expressway, and is seen to decongest traffic in the metropolis especially along EDSA, C-5 and central Manila.
