SAN CARLOS CITY, Pangasinan — The local government unit (LGU) here is urging couples in a live-in relationship to avail of the city’s weekly mass wedding for the benefit of their children.

“Based on our assessment, about 20 percent of couples here in the city with children are still not married, when the family, especially children, is entitled to benefits of couples who are married,” Civil Registry Officer Lourdes Llamas said in an interview Monday.

Llamas said couples who wanted to apply for the mass wedding in the city, which is now held every Monday, should only bring their birth certificates, community tax or residence certificate, and certificate of no marriage (CeNoMar) which can be secured from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Some 174 couples, including those living together with children, tied the knot on February 8 as part of the city’s celebration of the Civil Registration Month.

Meanwhile, Llamas also urged residents in the city for a free child registration on February 27. The activity covers illegitimate children, or children born out of wedlock.
