MANILA — As the campaign period for national candidates started on Tuesday, an official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) urged the public to report to them illegally-sized and improperly-placed campaign posters and tarpaulins.
“Help identify illegally sized and illegally placed posters, using this template. #SumbongSaCOMELEC #VoterEd @COMELEC,” poll body spokesperson James Jimenez in his Twitter account, @jabjimenez.
With this, he noted that those who will submit reports, particularly those with anonymous accounts should provide identity verification.
The Comelec official also reminded that the report must indicate if material is oversized, or out of place or both. It also must indicate location of the illegal material.
Also, it must indicate the date the picture was taken and use the hashtag #SumbongSaCOMELEC.
The public may send their reports to @comelec or facebook.com/comelecph or via Instagram://comelectv and [email protected].
Under the Fair Elections Act, posters made of cloth, paper, cardboard must not exceed two by three feet while streamers must not be bigger than three by eight feet.
These election propaganda materials may be posted in authorized common poster area in public places defined by local election officer, frequently located in areas of high pedestrian traffic, walls of market, park, and private property, provided that the posting has the consent of the owner.
Violations constitute an election offense punishable under the Omnibus Election Code in additional to administrative liability, whether applicable.
