MANILA — The Philippine embassy in Washington DC on Wednesday issued an advisory to Filipinos in Haiti regarding the continued protests in the country that have already left dozens injured.
“We advise our kababayan in Haiti to stay indoors and prepare their personal security plans,” Philippine Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez said in the advisory.
“If they must venture outdoors, they should avoid demonstrations and any large gatherings of people,” he added.
According to the embassy, there are about 500 Filipinos residing in Haiti.
Philippine Honorary Consul General in Haiti Fitzgerald Brandt reported that no Filipino has so far been reported harmed due to the demonstrations.

Protest rallies erupted late last week, urging President Jovenel Moise to resign.
The embassy said the movement has already caused disruptions in the capital Port-au-Prince and other cities.
Latest reports, on the other hand, said 78 detainees have escaped a Haiti prison at the height of the demonstrations.
