DAGUPAN CITY — Government information officers are urging their local counterparts to work with them in providing people accurate, timely and relevant information.

Oscar Navata, president of Pangasinan Government Information Officers’ Association Inc. (PaGIOA), said the unity among information officers in providing truthful information will have a positive impact on the province as a whole.

“Maganda ang epekto kung magkakaroon ng pagkakaisa. Magkakaroon isang boses para sa mga programa ng gobyerno (It will have positive effect if there will be unity. There will be a voice to the programs of the government), especially now in the digital era when fake news is prevalent, which is disadvantageous to the country,” Navata said Wednesday during the Tongtongan ed PIA (Philippine Information Agency) forum.

PaGIOA is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission in Baguio Extension Office last December 20.

Its members are all national government information officers in the province, but the membership will now be extended to the local government unit (LGU) information officers, he explained.

“Through the association, best practices of information officers can be shared with one another,” Joseph Abuan Manuel, information officer of Philippine Health Insurance Corp., said.

Meanwhile, a general assembly will be held on March 27 at the City Museum here, where a new set of PaGIOA officers will be selected.
