DUMAGUETE CITY – A total of 620 individuals are currently undergoing training on the operations, troubleshooting and other concerns related to the Vote Counting Machines (VCMS) to be used in the May 13 mid-term polls.

Lawyer Eliseo Labaria, who heads the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Negros Oriental, disclosed Tuesday that the training for the technical support staff runs from Monday through Friday at a local hotel here.

Labaria said these individuals come from the different towns and cities in Negros Oriental and were hired by Comelec to be assigned to the different voting centers in the province.

The areas of training include operations of the VCMs, troubleshooting, contingency, and transmission of results, the Comelec lawyer explained.

He said the technical support staff will also be present during the testing and sealing of the VCMs prior to deployment to the different voting precincts.

No date has been set yet for the final testing and voting, he added.

Next week, thousands of teachers from the Department of Education who will comprise the Board of Election Inspectors will also undergo training.

Comelec personnel who werte trained previously on the VCMs are handling the training this time, according to Labaria.
