Duterte to abolish three agencies

Road Board and the Sugar Regulatory Administration were two of the three agencies that President Rodrigo Duterte threatened to terminate to restrain corruption in the government, on his statement last Saturday in Cagayan de Oro City.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, in his speech during the closing ceremony of the 26th Mindanao Business Conference (MINBIZCON) at the Xavier Sports and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro City on September 9, 2017, reiterates that he will eradicate corruption and restore peace and order in Mindanao so that the island can become more conducive for business. “When I go back next week, I will abolish one, two, three agencies. ‘Yung Road Board, they have to go… ‘Yung Sugar Regulatory Board, I will abolish it, just place it in an office,” Duterte said during the closing ceremony of the 26th Mindanao Business Conference in Cagayan de Oro City.

He disclosed that one of the officials in these agencies hired three consultants who get paid for P200,000 every month, and would leave the task of eliminating these offices to Congress.

“Biro mo the guy, meron siyang consultant, tatlo… ang bayad P200,000 kada buwan, mas malaki pa sa presidente. I will abolish them. I will suggest to Congress. Marami akong bagahe eh, corruption dito, corruption doon,” the President added.

“‘Pag hindi mo na-control ang corruption sa gobyerno, walang mangyayari sa buhay na ‘to,” he said.

The Road Board was established under Republic Act 8794 to ensure utilization of the Road User’s Tax, which should be used for road maintenance and improvement of road drainage, installation of efficient traffic lights and road safety devices, and air pollution control.

Meanwhile, the Sugar Regulatory Board was established by Executive Order 18 issued in 1986 to promote growth and development of the sugar industry through participation of the private sector and to improve the working conditions of the laborers.
