MisOr offers projects for barangays

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Misamis Oriental provincial government’s Office of the Barangay Affairs (OBA) said it still accepts project proposals from barangay local government unit (BLGUs).

OBA officer-in-charge Jener Alaba said Thursday most of the projects from BLGUs seeking funding consist of water system and covered courts. Misamis Oriental has 424 barangays.

Each BLGU can avail of PHP300,00 worth of project, but Alaba said the provincial government can fund more than that on a case to case basis.

“The funds come directly from the province, but their own municipalities can add (the amount) if the project has reached its funding limit,” he said.

Engr. Tessie Gales, assistant provincial engineer, said the annual subsidy for barangays started in 2014.

But Gales recommends that a BLGU seeking funding must accomplish pending projects first to ensure prompt completion.

“There are still barangays (villages) that have not yet availed of the program. That’s why we made an initiative to visit their sessions and explain to them about it,” she said.

Under the Provincial Barangay Infrastructure Projects department, Capitol has already implemented 408 projects amounting to almost PHP150,731,145 between 2015 and 2018.

For 2019, at least 25  projects amounting to PP12.3 million are ongoing, while 46 projects are up for implementation amounting to PHP21 million.
