PALO, Leyte — Some 200 new Philippine National Police (PNP) recruits have taken their oath after passing the rigorous screening process.

PNP Eastern Visayas Regional Director Brig. Gen. Dionardo Carlos led the oath-taking on Monday at the police regional office grandstand here during the weekly flag-raising ceremony.

Carlos told reporters that out of the 1,028 aspiring applicants for the first cycle 2018 recruitment program, 262 passed the screening.

Only 200 recruits were accommodated in the region. The 62 other qualified applicants were endorsed to the PNP Headquarters at Camp Crame in Quezon City, wherein they will be given an opportunity to commence their training in different regions nationwide.

“This new breed of police officers will undergo the mandatory training, the public safety basic recruit course for six months, which will be followed by another six months of a field training program,” Carlos said.

Carlos encouraged more qualified applicants to join the second cycle recruitment.

The police regional office has advised interested applicants to secure the initial documentary requirements while waiting for the opening of the next phase of recruitment after the May 2019 elections.
