‘Star Boy’ Magboo challenges Thai boxer for featherweight title

JR “Star Boy” Magboo of Mindoro Oriental will fight Anurak Thisa of Thailand for the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia featherweight title in Bangkok, Thailand on March 22.

Magboo, 29, who holds a 17-2-2, eight KOs record, lost to George Kambosos of Australia in Kuala Lumpur last year by a Technical Knockout in the second round.

He scored a first-round knockout win against Prell Tupas in May 13, 2018 during his comeback fight. Magboo’s last fight was a split decision loss to Jhon Gemino for the Philippine super bantamweight title in Agoncillo on December 21, 2014.

He earlier won the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) Pan Pacific super bantamweight title to Virgil Puton on August 2 last year.

Thisa, 27, alias Nop Kratingdaenggym, (22-1-0, eight KOs) won by a sixth-round TKO over Seyed Mehrdad Manian on March 30, 2018.

Thisa’s only loss was against Nehomar Cermeno in the WBA world super bantamweight title on September 30, 2016. The boxing event is being promoted by Niwat Laosuwannawat of Galaxy Boxing Promotion.
