Bukidnon water utility limits supply due to dry spell

MALAYBALAY CITY – Due to limited water supply brought by the El Niño weather phenomenon, the Malaybalay City Water District (MCWD) has been implementing water supply rotation since Friday.

In its advisory on Wednesday, the MCWD said the schedule of water supply interruption will be implemented daily in its service area.

Water interruption will be experienced in Barangay 2 up to Barangay 11 and Sitio Natid-asan in Barangay Casisang from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. every day, and in portions of Barangays 10 and 11, at 8 a.m. to 11:30 every morning.

The entire Barangay Kalasungay will have no water from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. daily and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Zone 1 of Barangay Kalasungay from Rubio Compound will have water interruption from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday.

NHA phases 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, Paglaum Village, Kubayan Village, Avinca Village, Grema and Ofelia Subdivision will have no water supply from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday. These places will also have no water supply from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. every Saturday and Sunday.

Barangays San Jose, Laguitas, Linabo, Aglayan, and Cabangahan will have water interruption from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday. These places will also have no water supply from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday.

The MCWD advised concessionaires to store water in clean water storage prior to the scheduled water interruption.

The MCWD usually experiences low water supply during the dry season, as its main source in Kibalabag River experiences decreased volume capacity. It buys water from the Kibalabag water source that is controlled and managed by the city government of Malaybalay. As of July 2018, the MCWD had 17,640 active connections.

Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture 10 (Northern Mindanao) has already carried out plans to address the drought brought by the El Niño, identifying Bukidnon as its top priority because of the intensive agricultural sector.
