PALO, Leyte — The Philippine National Police (PNP) regional office here said the operational capability of its mobile force units will be boosted with the acquisition of communications equipment worth PHP24 million.
Police Brig. Gen. Dionardo Carlos, PNP Eastern Visayas Regional Director, said the PHP24 million Harris very high frequency (VHF) low-band radios and Codan high-frequency manpack radios will help boost the communication of police mobile battalions and companies.
Harris radios are flexible and reliable for forward-deployed forces in remote areas. These have range of 3,000 kilometers or more, are rapidly deployed and require minimal infrastructure. They are also interoperable with existing VHF radio systems.
Codan’s manpack transceivers are reliable, rugged, and a secure solution for portable long-distance high-frequency voice and data communications.
“The police regional office is more than happy to have these newly-procured equipment, which will definitely boost our operational capability and mandated functions. These tactical radios ideally used for traditional combat delivers a highly secured, clear, reliable voice and data communication,” Carlos told reporters on Friday.
The recipients of the new equipment distributed on Monday are the Regional Mobile Force Battalion, Eastern Samar Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), Northern Samar PMFC, Samar SPMFC, and Southern Leyte PMFC.
The recipient units will be oriented by PNP Communication Electronic Service-Regional Communications Electronic Office on the proper use and maintenance of these equipment.
The PNP’s mobile force units serve as the mobile reaction unit for internal security operations and to reinforce support to the provincial, city, and municipal police units for public safety operations, law enforcement operations, and special police operations.
The police regional office also distributed 10 air-conditioning units and 10 laptops to various police offices in the region.
