MANILA — The Esports World Federation (ESWF), which is the first internationally-oriented esports federation in the Philippines, was formally launched on Monday at the SM Megamall Building A Activity Center.

ESWF president Arniel Gutierrez said the federation aims to hold the E-World Cup in the near future.

“We want to make the Philippines the home of esports in the world. We also want to support game developers and companies to participate in various esports events,” said Gutierrez during the press conference.

Aside from Gutierrez, attending the launch were ESWF secretary general Ryan Lai and board member Atty. Rains David; Philippine Super Liga president Philip Ella Juico and Atty. Jay Tamayo, representing his father, Soft Tennis Association of the Philippines president Col. Jeff Tamayo.

The ESWF has tied up with the Philippine Collegiate Champions League and the Philippine Inter Schools, Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (PISCUAA) to discover talents who will be honed into world-class players.

The ESWF also plans to conduct roadshow, summer camp and clinic, coaching workshops, youth seminars for schools and municipalities, online and offline events, and esports summit.

The ESWF’s international partners are the FIM ASIA Esports Commission, which is composed of 28 nations, and the Global Association of International Sports Federation (GAISF), which is the umbrella organization for all international sports federations as well as organizers of multi-sports games and sport-related international associations.

Organizations which are applying for alliance with ESWF are the International Federation of Esports Healthcare Professionals, Americas Sports Federation Organization, Europe Esports Federation and Organization Africas Esports Federation.

The games which ESWF aims to feature are Mobile Legends, Arena of Valor, Dota 2, Starcraft, Tekken 7, League of Legends, Clash Royale, Hearthstone and Pro Evolution Soccer.

Esports, a form of competition using video games, is among the 56 sports calendared in the 30th SEA Games, which will be held in the Philippines from November 30 to December 11. A total of six gold medals are at stake in esports — two each in the computer, mobile and console categories.
