MANILA — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) on Thursday signed a memorandum of agreement with Firefly Electric and Lighting Corporation (FELCO), aimed at empowering Electrical Installation and Maintenance National Certificate (EIM NC) II program enrollees.

Through the partnership, FELCO, the exclusive distributor of Firefly lighting and Royu electrical products in the Philippines, will provide 38 electrician kits to TESDA technological institutions (TTIs) and technical vocational institutions (TVIs) this year.

These kits will be distributed to TTIs and TVIs in the National Capital Region and Region 4-A (23), Region 8 (five) and Region 10 (10).

The kits will be used during classroom discussion and application, according to TESDA.

FELCO will also provide product knowledge discussion with select batches of EIM NC II enrollees.

In his speech, TESDA Secretary Isidro Lapena said the kits and discussions will help increase the trainees’ competitiveness and knowledge.

“I made a commitment to improve the facilities of our schools and training centers,” he added.

Luz Victoria Amponin, executive director of TESDA’s Partnerships and Linkages Office, earlier told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that TESDA has been partnering with private firms.

These companies, she said, provide scholarships, donate building or equipment, share their facilities, among others, depending on the agreement and the firms’ capabilities.

Companies would benefit from partnering with TESDA, too, as the agency would help promote them, train their workers and also help them recruit people.
