MALASIQUI, Pangasinan — The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) chairman in this town stood by the credibility of the automated election using the vote counting machines (VCMs) and the voters’ registration verification system (VRVS).

“It is credible because we have seen and tried it ourselves and it was okay, there were no problems,” PPCRV municipal chairman Oscar Lambino, said in an interview Wednesday.

He said VCMs efficiently accepted the ballot during mock polls and there is the receipt, which voters could use to verify if the VCM read their ballot correctly.

“It was not like before, I think, in my belief based on what I have seen with the machines, there is no way they could cheat with it,” Lambino said.

He added even the list of voters is already updated.

“The dead will no longer vote as they were already removed from the voters’ list,” Lambino disclosed.

He also commended the use of VRVS for the upcoming elections, wherein Pangasinan is among the pilot provinces to use the machines.

Voters need not search their names on the list to know their voting precinct as they only need to put their thumb on the VRVS machines, which will scan voter’s fingerprint and show the data needed.

However, when voters encounter problems, PPCRV volunteers are present in the polling centers to assist voters, Lambino said.

In Malasiqui town, the PPCRV has 150 volunteers who were educated on the do’s and don’ts while in the polling centers.

Meanwhile, PPCRV conducted a candidates’ forum here on Wednesday for the political bets to have an avenue to present themselves, including their platforms.
