SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is gearing to conduct its Balik Eskwela Diskwento program to make students and parents avail of discounts on school supplies as they prepare for the opening of classes on June 3.
Engr. Lynna Joy Cardinal, information officer of the DTI Antique provincial office, said the back-to-school discount is a regular activity conducted by the DTI with local retailers.
“There are 14 local retailers that have now confirmed to participate in the activity,” she said in an interview Thursday.
The activity will run from May 31 until June 4 this year.
Cardinal said local participating retailers will have tarpaulins hanged in front of their stores so the buyers would know that they are offering discounts or even have giveaway items ready for them.
She said that unlike the previous years, when they had only one venue at the Dalipe Tradetown in San Jose de Buenavista for the activity, the participating retailers this year will just have their items displayed in their stores.
“We will have in-store Balik Eskwela Diskwento activity this year because we found that if we put that at the Tradetown, there are times when it rains and their merchandise get wet because of the open space,” she said.
Last year, Cardinal said the participating retailers generated PHP3.043 million in sales from 7,077 customers who availed of the discounts on school supplies.
Meanwhile, among the participating stores this year are Joem’ s School and Office Supplies, B.E.Y. Enterprise, Gian’s Enterprise, Unitop General Merchandising, Gaisano Grand Mall of Antique, and National Bookstore at Robinsons Mall.
