SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique — The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) is warning the public against the surge of dengue hemorrhagic fever.
Mark Rojas, IPHO personnel, on Tuesday cautioned the public against dengue, after the death of a girl from Naba, Culasi town, a suspected dengue patient. The death of the seven-year-old girl was reported by the Culasi District Hospital last May 22.
“The girl is considered a suspected dengue patient because there was no laboratory test that was conducted on her,” Rojas said.
The victim was reported to have complained of loose bowel movement and vomiting, but three days prior to her admission last May 15 at the Culasi District Hospital, she had a fever that was temporarily relieved when she took paracetamol.
“The girl was then suspected of (having) severe dengue with severe dehydration as the final diagnosis of the doctor,” he said.
Rojas said the province has a total of 244 cases from January 1 to May 25, higher than 194 cases for the same period in 2018.
He said that from May 20 to May 25 there were about 20 cases with four hotspot barangays namely Esperanza and Lipata in Culasi, Barangay 1 in San Jose de Buenavista, and San Francisco Norte of Tibiao town.
“The hotspot barangays are those that have been monitored to have dengue cases for four consecutive weeks,” he said.
“The IPHO is recommending fogging in these hotspot barangays,” he said.
