Muntinlupa launches Comprehensive Smoke Free Ordinance campaign

MUNTINLUPA CITY, Sept. 20 (PIA) — The Muntinlupa City local government unit recently launched Comprehensive Smoke Free Ordinance campaign signaling the strict implementation of a law banning smoking in public.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi led the launching together with the local Smoke-Free Task Force (SFTF) headed by the City Health Office.

Fresnedi said those who will be apprehended smoking in public will receive a citation ticket from enforcers roving across the city.

Violators face fines up to P2,500 or 8 hours of community service for smoking in public, and up to P5,000 or 14 hours of community service for violation of sales restriction and advertising ban.

Under City Ordinance 17-072, smoking tobacco products and electronic nicotine delivery systems such as e-cigarette (vapes) or e-shisha is prohibited in places that are accessible to the public regardless of ownership, workplaces, government facilities, outdoor areas where people gather, except for Designated Smoking Areas compliant with LGU standards.

Members of the SFTF and authorized enforcers will reprimand any person within the jurisdiction of the city smoking in public places through “Oplan Sita”.

Meanwhile, locals are encouraged to report incidences of persons smoking in public places to authorities.

The SFTF, prior to the launch of the campaign, conducted a motorcade along the City’s major and secondary roads to raise public awareness. | PIA
