Taxi drivers from Baguio City became the trending topic in social media after several times of returning valuable items left by their passengers inside the cab.

According to a Facebook post of Sofia Wisdom, a taxi passenger who left her smartphone inside a taxi drived by Paul William, she tried to call her phone using her son’s phone, however no one is picking up.

After two hours she tried to call her phone again , someone answered and told her to pick up the phone in a store near her house.

Wisdom found out that the reason why William did not answer the call was because he didn’t know how to use a modern phone.

“The driver knew well that the phone was ringing but he’s not knowledgeable to operate the phone, so he just left the sound disturbed his ears that long,” Wisdom wrote. “He alleged that he went twice to our residence (as far as Tam-awan) expecting that someone would be up there at the gate waiting, but to no avail. What he did was to park his vehicle beside the store and let someone answer the phone for him,” she added.

Wisdom praised William’s honesty as well as the passenger who turned over her phone to William.

“May this dear manong be showered with abundant blessings for his deed. The phone is just an item which can be replaced, but his man is commendable whose act is to be cherished. My salute too to the young passenger next to my son.” Wisdom commended.

Another cab driver from Baguio City named Reggie Cabututan was given a full scholarship by his Australian passenger after returning the passenger’s belongings that was left inside his cab.

The passenger, Trent Shields who is an Australian business, guaranteed Cabututan an internship with an Australian company when he finish his course that could pay him P1.7 million per year.

Not only taxi drivers from Baguio City showed this kind of deed, in fact Filipinos are known for being honest without asking or expecting for a praise or reward, wherever in the country or in the world they are. | Angelica Bobiles – PTV
