John Paul Solano, an Aegis Juris fratman and who is one of the suspects on UST Law student death, Horacio “Atio” Castillo III, is now facing multiple criminal raps filed by Manila Police District (MPD) and Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday in an inquest proceeding.

Murder, hazing, perjury, robbery and obstruction of justice were filed against Solano.

Solano promised that he will provide information regarding Atio’s death and told the reporters that he is innocent.

He was previously a “person of interest” in the case, however, he was now considered as the primary suspect in Castillo’s Death after police discovered that he gave false statements.

According to Solano’s first statement, he just found Castillo’s body on a sidewalk in Balut, Tondo, and later found out the he’s a member of Aegis Juris.

He also stated that he brought Castillo’s body “half dead” and “unconscious” in Chinese General Hospital on September 17.

Solano admitted that he is a member of Aegis Juris fraternity but refused the participation in initiation rites for Castillo.

Castillo attended the welcoming rites of the Aegis Juris fraternity and died of a massive heart attack due to the injuries he suffered from hazing.

MPD officers and Castillo’s parents, Horacio II and Carminia, also attended the proceeding led by Assistant State Prosecutor Susan Villanueva.

Solano surrendered on Friday, September 22, through the Office of Sen. Panfilo Lacson accompanied by UST Law Dean Nilo Divina, who is also a member of Aegis Juris fraternity.

MPD also considered Ralph Trangia, Aegis Juris official and his father Antonio as suspects, however Ralph was reported to flee to the United States last September 19 while his father was said to already submitted feelers to the authorities. | Angelica Bobiles – PTV
