MANILA — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Friday reported that it has finished the total replacement of Tripa de Gallina Bridge along Buendia Avenue in Pasay City.
According to DPWH-National Capital Region Director Ador Canlas, the PHP23.2 million reconstruction and strengthening project on the bridge was completed in May 2019. The project to make the bridge withstand strong earthquakes began in March 2018.
He noted that the new bridge is now seismic-resistant. “We are glad to announce that the newly-replaced the Tripa de Gallina Bridge can handle ground acceleration ranging from 7 to 8 magnitude,” Canlas said in a statement.
The reconstruction of the Bridge came after it was identified by the DPWH Bridge Management System (BMS) Inventory as among the weak bridges in the metropolis. It was determined that the 4-lane Tripa de Gallina Bridge needed to undergo urgent replacement, with the inevitable wear and tear from about 50 years of service as evident by the presence of cracks.
Meanwhile, the DPWH will resume its road improvement works in Metro Manila this weekend starting 11 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2019.
Canlas said that road repairs will be undertaken at the southbound of Edsa from Guzent Construction Equipment Sales and Rental to Culiat Bridge, first lane from sidewalk; from Magallanes to Baclaran Bus Stop going to Magallanes to Alabang Bus Stop, outer lane; and from Eugenio Lopez Drive to Scout Borromeo (desilting and construction of manhole); and at the northbound of after Aurora Boulevard Service Road, second lane from sidewalk.
Road rehabilitation will also be undertaken at the southbound of Circumferential Road 5 (C-5) from fronting SM Aura, third lane from median; and at the northbound from fronting SM Aura, second lane from median.
Reblocking work will also cover the southbound of Katipunan Avenue from after P. Tuazon, second lane from sidewalk; the westbound of Quirino Highway from Kingfisher Street to Primerose Street, second lane from sidewalk; the westbound of General Luis Street from Pascual Street to before Oriental Tin; and the northbound of Regalado Avenue from Mindanao Avenue Exit to Quirino Highway, second lane from sidewalk.
Motorists are told to expect traffic slowdown in the affected areas and advised to use alternate routes whenever possible.
