Mayor Belmonte creates committee on NGOs

Mayor Joy Belmonte ordered the creation of the Committee on Accreditation, Selection, and Monitoring of People’s and Non-Governmental Organizations in Quezon City.

Executive Order 4 aims to institutionalize and strengthen the local government’s mechanisms in encouraging further people’s support and meaningful participation in the city’s development.

The committee is in charge of promotion and mobilization of people’s and non-government organization’s participation in local governance.

It is also in charge of formulating plans, policies and programs to effectively ensure people’s participation in the Local Special Bodies (LSBs).

Part of the committee’s duties is to facilitate and monitor people’s and NGO’s accreditation and election in the LSBs as well as other functions as may be assigned by the City Mayor from time to time.

The committee shall be headed by the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Committee on Public Affairs, Information and People’s Participation of the City Council.

Its members shall include representatives from the Office of the Mayor and the Office of the Vice Mayor, the Secretary of the City Council, the Officer-in-Charge of the Barangay Community Relations Department (BCRD), the City Planning and Development Officer, the President of the Liga ng mga Barangay, and the City Director of Department of the Interior and Local Government – QC Field Office.

Under the committee, a Technical Working Group (TWG) shall provide technical and administrative assistance and shall act on matters requiring the committee’s immediate action.

The TWG shall be composed by representatives from DILG-QC, Office of the Mayor, Office of the Vice Mayor, Office of the Secretary to the Sangguniang Panlungsod, BCRD, and City Planning and Development Department.
