PRRD supporters want to hear housing solution in SONA

MANILA — A solid government solution on housing woes is among the issues administration supporters hope to hear in the fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday.

Nelly Godoyo, 51, said she wanted the national government to hear their problem and assist in the awarding of their lots in Quezon City.

“We’ve been fighting for it for several years now, since 2008. A lot of administrations have passed, this problem should’ve been resolved by now,” she said in Filipino.

“We’re hoping that with this administration, President Rodrigo Duterte would be able to hear our side and help us attain our own home,” she added.

Marites Araque of Manila echoed the same sentiment, saying she shares the similar housing issue in Punta, Sta. Ana.

“Gusto ko ‘yong talagang tuloy-tuloy na assurance galing sa gobyerno (I want a continuous assurance from the government),” she said.

Meanwhile, both women have supported the programs of the Duterte administration such as the campaign against illegal drugs.

“Suportado naman namin ang mga polisiya niya katulad nitong sa droga. Gabi-gabi kaming nagroronda, kaming mga babae dahil kailangan naman talagang mabawasan sa lipunan ang mga pusher (We support the president’s policies, like the one on drugs. In fact, every night, the women of our community make rounds because we acknowledge the need of lesser drug pushers in the society,)” Godoyo said.

“Ako gusto kong tutukan talaga nila ‘yong drugs, lalo na ngayon, ‘yong mga biktima ng drugs bumabata, nakakaawa (As for me, I want them to focus on the illegal drug problem, especially now, the victims of illegal drugs are getting younger. I feel bad for them),” Araque said.

Around 3,000 administration supporters and at least 5,000 anti-Duterte protesters staged their respective pre-SONA programs near the vicinity of the House of Representatives.
