At the opening of the 18th Congress of the Senate of the Philippines, the newly elected Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go expressed his excitement towards his new mandate as a senator and his responsibility to serve the Filipino people.

“Iba ang pakiramdam. Exciting. I am always ready to serve the Filipino people,” Go said at an ambush interview right after the Senate session. Go also reiterated that he will be a working senator. He said, “Once again, I will not limit myself as a legislator. Tatlong araw lang naman ang session at may committee hearings. I’ll continue to go around the country para mapakinggan ang hinaing ng ating kababayan.”

Go emphasized that he is the representative of the people and his priority is his job as a senator. The senator already filed his first 20 priority measures which include the establishment of the Department of Overseas Filipino Workers, institutionalization of the Malasakit Center, and reinstating death penalty for heinous crimes related to illegal drugs and plunder, among others. For the latter, Go expressed that the president is tired of the corruption done by public servants, saying “Exasperated na po si Pangulong Duterte.”

As the winning senator with the third highest vote of 20 million, Go assured that he “will be active and of course, transparent,” as a senator especially in his preparation for committee hearings and debates. He said that he wants to hear the needs of the people particularly the poor and the indigent Filipinos all over the country and use these as basis for his legislative agenda.

Go also cleared that just like the President, the interest of the people is his top priority. When asked if there is a difference between his previous job as special assistant of the president (SAP) and his new job as a senator, “Dati, nasa tabi ni Pangulong Duterte, ngayon priority ko ay Senado. Ang priority ko ay pakinggan at iparating ang hinaing ng mga tao. Iisa po ang aming hangarin ni Pangulo, kabutihan ng bawat Pilipino,” Go said.

He also added that he has nothing more to ask from the Filipino nation. “Ngayon, ibabalik ko sa tao ang serbisyo,” and that he will only accompany President Duterte in his own personal capacity “as long as wala namang conflict sa aking mandato bilang Senador.”

Go then proceeded to the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City for the State of the Nation address of President Rodrigo Duterte.
