CEBU, Philippines – Personnel of Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) San Francisco successfully rescued 149 passengers and 18 crew members of the Motor Vessel “Mika Mari 8” which submerged at the Port of Consuelo, San Francisco, Camotes, Cebu on Saturday, 31 August 2019.
CGSS San Francisco received a phone call from Jomalia Shipping Corporation informing that there was a maritime incident which transpired at the said port.
Immediately, the Quick Response Team (QRT) of CGSS San Francisco proceeded to the said vicinity and conducted rescue operations for the passengers and crew of the submerged motorbanca.
Information revealed that M/V “Mika Mari 8” departed from Danao Port bound to Camotes. Upon finishing the docking procedure and while disembarking the vehicles, a 10 wheeler truck encountered a transmission problem and slip on the starboard side of the vessel which caused a balancing problem and eventually leading the vessel to submerge.
Unfortunately, four of the passengers suffered minor injuries and were brought to the Ricardo Memorial Hospital for medical intervention.
