The Department of Justice is looking into having more strict control over the Bureau of Corrections. Earlier, at the Senate hearings on the Good Conduct Time Allowance controversy, the BuCor has used the law to justify the release of high profile inmates in the past without the need for approval from the DOJ. The DOJ-DILG Joint Review Committee has already completed and submitted the draft for the revised implementing rules and regulations of Republic Act No. 10592 which shall serve as basis for reforms within the BuCor. An oversight committe will also be formed to temporarily oversee institutional operations in the BuCor.
