Malacañang observes 47th anniversary of Martial Law

In observance of the 47th anniversary of the declaration of martial law by then Pres. Ferdinand Marcos, the Palace expressed its importance in protecting the country from enemies of the state, reminding people of martial law’s vital role in staving off communist influence. Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo clarified that despite the fact that Marcos had ample justification in declaring martial law on September 21, 1972, it resulted to abuse. Malacañang pointed out that the past should serve as a lesson. Martial law should be used for the unification of people and the state in accordance with the constitution.
