Laguna village bags ‘zero out-of-school youth’ award

A barangay (village) in this town was among the 13 recipients of Laguna’s 2nd Gawad Tanglaw recognition awards for its achievement as a village with zero out-of-school youths.

Barangay San Miguel received the award during the celebration of “World Teachers’Day” on Thursday at the Laguna Cultural Center in Sta. Cruz town.

Laguna Provincial Schools Division Superintendent Josilyn S. Solana cited San Miguel village as the sole recipient for the Gawad category on “Barangay With Zero Out-Of-School Youth” from other awardees.

San Miguel village chair Rammel E. Banzuela, along with village councilor Mars V. Libang, beamed with pride as they received the distinction and lauded teachers and school officials for their immense contributions to the barangay award.

They shared the “Gawad Tanglaw” honor to teachers and school officials for being instrumental in ensuring that children and youths in the barangay are attending school and put premium on education.

Also honored for their commendable efforts were San Miguel Elementary School teacher-in-charge Ave Maria D. delos Reyes; DepEd Alaminos Schools District Supervisor Solomon B. Kahulugan; Alternative Learning System (ALS) District Coordinator Rowena U. de Ocampo; and mobile teacher Jerrymie B. Solmerano.

The “World Teachers’ Day Gawad Tanglaw” recognition for San Miguel village was its second major feat after emerging as winner in Alaminos’ Cleanest and Greenest Barangay” competition.

Mayor Loreto M. Masa has also nominated the village for the National Search for Cleanest and Greenest Barangay for 2017. (PNA)
