DOJ eyes legal action versus Maynilad, Manila Water

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is disposed to initiate a legal undertaking in the event of the Maynilad Water Services Inc. and Manila Water Company, Inc.’s refusal to scrap the adverse provisions in the water concession agreement between the state and said water suppliers. In a study conducted by the justice arm, the government and consumers are in a disadvantageous footing with respect to some stipulations in the contract. The state is now on the move to draft a new water concession agreement. The concessionaires are willing to meet with the government to settle the dispute.
