16,706 barangays are already drug-free -ICAD

The Inter-agency Committee on Anti-illegal Drugs (ICAD), in the presence of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Philippine National Police, and Presidential Communication Operations Office, reported that as of November 30, 2019, there have been 16,706 barangays across the Philippine archipelago that are free from the menace of illegal drugs. Further, 220,728 people were brought into the government custody in the course of the state’s anti-illegal drug program, and PHP40.39 billion worth of illicit substances were seized.

ICAD Chairperson and PDEA head Aaron Aquino expressed its confidence that the present administration can obliterate the drug problem in the entire Philippines before President Rodrigo Duterte’s term concludes.

With regard to Vice President Leonor “Leni” Robredo, the former ICAD co-chairperson, Aquino opined that the veep incurred several shortcomings in handling said co-leadership. She, however, is still welcome to raise suggestions to the committee with regard to the government’s move against illegal drugs.

On the statements that Vice President Robredo releases on Monday, December 16, 2019, Aquino said that her message will be heard, and she is unrestrained to divulge whatever report she has gotten.
