Sangley Airport Development Project in Cavite City has been formally opened Saturday, February 15, 2020. Pres. Rodrigo R. Duterte cited this as one of the results of the nation’s money properly utilized.
The president has assured that the government has allocated funds for projects centering on the welfare of the Filipinos and that there is enough money for such if no corruption takes place.
“There is money. Problem arises when it is not used properly. (May pera tayo. Ang problema, ‘pag ang pera ay hindi nagagamit sa wastong paraan). That has always been the problem of the Philippines and it has kept us down for so many years,” said the
chief executive along with a warning to government officials involved in corruption.
The Sangley Airport has been proposed by Pres. Duterte and the Department of Transportation (DoTr) for the reduction of traffic at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
“Use this facility and more importantly take care of this facility, because in taking care and using this facility, many more will take advantage and use this facility and it will sow for many, many years.” DoTr Secretary Arthur Tugade urged the public, hinting the start of the plans that will bring Sangley Point International Airport into completion.
The first phase of the project which is expected to be finished within three years, includes the construction of an almost 5-kilometer connector road and a bridge with a 6-lane highway from Kawit interchange in Cavitex to Sangley Point International Airport. It also includes the construction of one runway that can manage 25 million passengers.
Its final stage with four runways serving 130 million passengers per year is expected to be fiished in the next 6 to 8 years.
The said project will soon start the operation for the commercial flights of light aircrafts from Sangley point to Balesin, and the operation of the turboprop aircraft and cargo planes.
The local government of Cavite assured that there will be no expenses from the government’s end.
According to Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla, the joint venture partnership made with Macroasia Corporation and China Communications Construction Company has reached its final stage.
“Sangley International Airport is expected to generate 50, 000 jobs and create easy access for motorists in and out of Cavite,” Governor Remulla added.
If the Sangley Point International Airport has carried out its operation, it is possible that the NAIA will be converted and redeveloped as a natural park.
