Albay adopts measures to cushion impact of transport strike

LEGAZPI CITY — The Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) has put in place measures to cushion the anticipated inconvenience by the day-long nationwide transport strike on Monday.

PDRRMC, on Saturday afternoon, issued advisory number 1 that listed things to do in the entire duration of the strike.

Albay Governor Al Francis Bichara said there will be “libreng sakay” or free rides to ply the Daraga-Legazpi routes, and also routes going to the first district (Tiwi) and third districts (Polangui) of Albay.

The different transport groups in Bicol Region are expected to join the strike.

Aside from the libreng sakay, Bichara also declared the suspension of classes in all levels province-wide both in private and public schools.

The advisory suggested “early marketing and buying of foodstuffs and medicines” to avoid inconvenience in going to markets and stores.

Bichara also asked students and the riding public to avoid going to malls and unnecessary movements until the public transport system in the province resumes.

“In order not to impede the access to health services during the transport strike, ambulances of local government units (LGUs) must be put on stand-by and be pre-positioned for the immediate disposition by the mayors,” Bichara added. (PNA)
