DSWD prepares food packs for distribution

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is now preparing for the distribution of food packs in places affected by the COVID-19.

The DSWD will be getting in touch with local governments to acquire the list of residents who need assistance and will be assigning stations in each LGU to ensure the implementation of social distancing.

Part of the plan is to coordinate with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to speed up the delivery of food packs to the LGUs.

The DSWD also expressed readiness to lend cash assistance up to Php 3,000 for residents seeking aid.

The DSWD currently has a budget of more than Php 1 billion and assures there is sufficient budget to help those in need.

Social Welfare and Development Sec. Rolando Joselito Bautista said they will be requesting for a supplemental budget to ensure the adequacy of food to be distributed.

Meanwhile, the operation of DSWD centers and residential care facilities will continue as they observe social distancing. – Report from Sandra Samala
