EMC on alert amidst death of terrorist leaders

NSFA, Panacan, Davao City – Eastern Mindanao Command directed its subordinate units on October 16, 2017 to raise their alert level and prevent possible reprisal from the Maute-Isis sympathetic groups after the death of Isnilon Hapilon and Omar Maute during a Military Operations in Marawi City.

The directive which includes the intensification of security operations in the different areas and the territorial waters was given during the gathering of Commanders and Staff of subordinate units for the conduct of the 3rd Quarter 2017 Campaign Progress Review and Assessment at Headquarters Eastern Mindanao Command.

Lt Gen Rey Leonardo Guerrero, the Commander of Eastmincom emphasized the need to strengthen border security as a pro-active measure to prevent the terrorists from using it as their mobility corridor.

It can be recalled that an Inter-Agency Border Security Coordinating Council in Region XI was operationalized after a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by member agencies on September 15, 2017 at Naval Station Felix Apolinario Panacan, Davao City.

He further reiterated his call for the continuous support by the different stakeholders in preventing terrorism in the area of responsibility.

“We recognize the importance of the support coming from the populace. We therefore ask everyone to be vigilant and to report to the authorities any suspicious activities in their respective communities,” Lt General Guerrero said. (EASTMINCOM) | via Eunice Samonte – PTV News
