PNP assures misconduct in its ranks will not be tolerated

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has assured that misconduct will not be tolerated among police officers manning quarantine checkpoints.

A tweet from a netizen has gone viral, showing harassment committed by an officer when he slipped a piece of paper with his personal number after getting the victim’s passport and quarantine pass.

According to PNP Spokesperson Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac, this may be an isolated case, but such misconduct of police officers will not be tolerated.

PNP Chief Police General Archie Gamboa issued a directive to validate the incident.

PNP Spokesperson Banac also reminded that police commanders should do a rotation of their personnel manning the checkpoints.

Police officers who abuse their power can face administrative charges if found guilty.

Meanwhile, the PNP has seven confirmed cases of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

PNP Spokesperson Banac said that the number of police officers is still adequate to man the quarantine checkpoints and their operations against COVID-19 will not be interrupted.
