European bizmen to hold energy forum in Leyte

TACLOBAN CITY — The European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) is bringing its Energy Smart campaign to Eastern Visayas through a forum that will make businesses be aware of available energy efficient technologies.

More than 100 businessmen and officials will gather on Thursday for the Energy Smart Forum at the Oriental Hotel in Palo, Leyte.

The ECCP, in partnership with Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), invited the country’s top energy efficiency professionals to discuss topics on energy issues, energy efficient technologies and financing.

“Surprisingly, the awareness level of local business is very low. We want them to be informed so they will become smart buyers of motor products,” said Oliver Cam, PCCI Eastern Visayas point person for trade and industry.

Cam urged business owners and even local government officials to attend the forum as part of the Leyte Business Month celebration. There is no registration fee to join the gathering.

“The cost of electricity is high in the Philippines, but with new energy efficiency strategies, businesses can boost their competitiveness and profitability by generating up to 30 percent energy savings,” Cam explained.

The ECCP has been advocating for Energy Smart Philippines to promote the advancement of solutions and initiatives on energy efficiency, demonstrate the latest technologies and innovations on energy efficiency, renewable energy and clean technology, and provide a networking platform for forging partnerships and business cooperation.
