The Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases disclosed phishing or online scamming cases in the country has increased by 100 percent amid the enhanced community quarantine.
IATF Spokesperson and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said aside from online transactions, solicitation of donations is also being used by thieves to steal money.
“We encourage everyone to double-check and verify these requests for donations. Mas mainam po na magbigay sa mga personal na kakilala natin o personal na inendorso ng malalapit sa atin (It is better to give to those we personally know or personally endorsed by those close to us),” Nograles advised.
Nograles revealed the report came from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
Individuals who have been victimized are encouraged to report to the NBI or call their hotlines.
