More OFWs seek assistance from DOLE

The number of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) asking for assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has increased. According to DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III, the applications for the Abot Kamay Ang Pagtulong (AKAP) have reached 30, 000 or 20 percent of the 150, 000 OFWs who will receive financial assistance due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Sec. Bello has stated that OFWs in other countries will receive $200 each while the OFWs who have gone home to the Philippines will receive PhP 10,000. The said program of DOLE has an allotted fund of PhP 1.5 billion. – PTV News
