Palace: PRRD to decide on ECQ today

President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to decide anytime today whether to extend, modify, or lift the ongoing enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases has submitted its recommendations on the matter. These include considerations on weighing between livelihood and health, and the proposed decision tool for a modified ECQ based on health standards, geography, and transportation.

“The President will base his decision on Science, that he has gotten the best advice, scientific advice, from his own Cabinet, and from the private sector,” Roque assured.

Roque also presented a survey and shared how President Duterte is thankful that 80 percent of Filipinos believe the government handles well the matter on COVID-19. He added that 86 percent of citizens are ready to sacrifice some of their rights to stop the spread of the virus.

Meanwhile, Roque announced that the IATF has directed the Department of Tourism (DOT) to arrange for hotel rooms to accommodate health workers. He added the DOTR, together with DILG, DOT, DOH, and Bureau of Quarantine, have been ordered to study and recommend protocols on the possible opening of public transportation. – Report from Mela Lesmoras
